Valheim: The Bog Witch Update — New Swamp Trader, Feasts and Farming
What the Bog Witch update added to Valheim: a friendly trader in the Swamp, the new feast mechanic, three new skills (Cooking, Farming, Crafting), and a large batch of materials, potions and build pieces.
By Valheim Field Guide Editorial Team
The Bog Witch update (patch 0.219.13) shipped on 29 October 2024, after a short Public Test Branch run. It did not add a new biome — instead it layered a full set of new systems into the existing world, most of them centred on the Swamp. For what the biome already contained before this update, see the Swamp guide.
This page records what the update introduced. The item counts and mechanics are taken from Iron Gate’s official 0.219.13 patch notes; the feast values below are confirmed against valheim.wiki’s feast and food pages and independent guides.
A new friendly NPC — the Bog Witch
Deep in the Swamp, a new vendor now lives in a candle-lit hut. Unlike the hostile enemies of the biome, the Bog Witch is a trader: she sells ingredients and materials that feed two of the update’s new systems, brewing potions and the feast mechanic.
- She is the first of her kind in the game — a shopkeeper you can return to, not a boss or an ambush.
- Her stock is the gateway to the new potions and the new crafting materials.
- Because she sits in a hostile biome, finding her is itself a small expedition: the hut is hard to spot among the Swamp’s trees and fog.
The feast mechanic
The update’s headline food feature is feasts: large meals that last longer than a single dish and can be shared among several players. In a co-op world a single feast can feed the whole party, which makes long sessions and boss runs much less about constantly re-eating.
- The update added 8 feasts in total. Each one lasts 50 minutes, has 10 servings, and is tied to the biome its ingredients come from:
| Feast | Max HP | Max Stamina | Eitr | Healing (hp/tick) | Biome |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Whole Roasted Meadow Boar | 35 | 35 | — | 2 | Meadows |
| Black Forest Buffet Platter | 35 | 35 | — | 3 | Black Forest |
| Swamp Dweller’s Delight | 35 | 35 | — | 3 | Swamp |
| Sailor’s Bounty | 45 | 45 | — | 3 | Ocean |
| Hearty Mountain Logger’s Stew | 45 | 45 | — | 3 | Mountain |
| Plains Pie Picnic | 55 | 55 | — | 4 | Plains |
| Mushrooms Galore á la Mistlands | 65 | 65 | 33 | 5 | Mistlands |
| Ashlands Gourmet Bowl | 75 | 75 | 38 | 6 | Ashlands |
Note: The Ashlands Gourmet Bowl feast and its Ashlands biome were added in the 1.0 release (September 2026), after the Bog Witch update shipped. It is documented here as part of the Bog Witch’s current full stock, but was not available at launch time of this update.
- Feasts pair with the existing three food slots rather than replacing them — they are a new, larger tier of food on top of the standard food system.
- A new Food Preparation Table build piece is central to preparing them.
Three new skills
The update added three new skills, all aimed at reducing the grind of the game’s production loop:
- Cooking — reduces the time it takes to craft food and gives a chance to gain +1 extra food while crafting.
- Farming — reduces the stamina cost of using the Cultivator, increases the durability of farming items, and gives a chance for bonus yield when harvesting crops.
- Crafting — reduces the time it takes to craft items, increases the durability of crafting items, and reduces the stamina cost of placing build pieces.
These matter most once you are running a large base with many workstations, where the time and stamina savings compound.
New content at a glance
From the official patch notes, the update also included:
- 16 new crafting materials
- 8 new potions (brewed with the ingredients the Bog Witch sells)
- 3 new items of clothing
- 4 new build pieces (including the Food Preparation Table)
- 2 new tools (including the Serving Tray, which lets you place a consumable as a build piece)
- 3 new emotes
- 1 new event
Confirmed stock (valheim.wiki, cross-checked with fandom, wiki3.jp and bisecthosting)
She sells 18 items (16 crafting materials + the Corked vial for blob bombs) and buys 5+4 gems/coins from you.

The “16 new crafting materials” in the patch notes maps to the 16 material items above (Candle wick through Fiery spice powder); the Corked vial is the later-added item for blob bombs. The 8 new potions she enables are brewed from her materials (Draught of Vananidir, Tonic of Ratatosk, Mead of Troll endurance, Brew of Animal Whispers, Berserkir mead, Anti-sting concoction, plus the blob-bomb vials).
What to do after updating
- Visit the Swamp. If you have not been, the Bog Witch is now the reason to make the trip — her stock unlocks the new potions and feasts.
- Build the Food Preparation Table if you run a co-op base; it is the core of the feast workflow.
- Level one of the three new skills that matches your playstyle — Cooking for food, Farming for a crop base, Crafting for a big build.
- Feasts change co-op planning: plan a feast for long exploration runs and boss prep instead of keeping three single dishes on hand for every fight.
