Valheim Enemy Weaknesses & Resistances by Damage Type

A quick-reference table of every major Valheim enemy and boss grouped by biome — what each is weak to, what it resists, and what it is immune to, so you pick the right weapon every time.

How to use this page

Scroll to the biome you are currently in, find the enemy you are fighting, and check the Weak to column. That is the damage type you should prioritize — everything else is either reduced or zero damage. The table is grouped by biome so you can look up your whole run at once.

Being verified: multipliers and exact resistance values are still being cross-checked against the 1.0 release. This page gives directional “weak / resistant / immune” labels from three independent wiki sources, not percentages. We are not guessing at numbers — see our verification workflow.

Damage type key

Damage type Source
Blunt Clubs, maces, sledges
Slash Swords, axes, atgeirs
Pierce Spears, bows, crossbows
Fire Fire arrows, Staff of Embers, some gem-socket weapons
Frost Frost arrows, Staff of Frost, Frostner
Poison Poison arrows, Draugr Fang, Staff of the Wild
Spirit Silver weapons, spirit arrows
Lightning Gem-socket lightning weapons, Dundr

Bosses

Boss Weak to Resistant Immune
Eikthyr — (no real weakness) Stagger (unique — not a damage type)
The Elder Fire Poison, Spirit, Stagger
Bonemass Blunt, Frost Fire, Pierce, Slash Poison, Stagger
Moder Fire Frost, Spirit, Stagger
Yagluth — (no real weakness) Fire, Pierce (very) Poison, Stagger
The Queen — (no real weakness) Pierce Spirit
Fader — (no real weakness) Pierce Fire, Spirit, Stagger
Kall Fimbulbringer — (no real weakness) Pierce, Fire, Frost, Lightning Spirit

Note: A “no real weakness” boss takes full (×1) damage from every physical type (blunt, slash, pierce, frost), so “weak to —” means no damage type out-damages the others — just bring a strong blunt or slash weapon and the right resistance. Kall Fimbulbringer (Deep North) is the 1.0 final boss; unlike the other Forsaken he has no trophy and no Forsaken Power.

Barka Fire All other damage types
Eyeless One Blunt, Slash
Gammeltroll Head (very weak) Most physical damage types

Note: The Deep North is the final 1.0 biome. Moose can be tamed with Lingonberries and ridden with a Moose Saddle. Gammeltrolls are resistant to most physical damage types, but their head is a very weak point — aim strikes there or throw Ember Charges (crafted from Embers at an Eternal Pyre) to deal meaningful damage. When defeated, a Gammeltroll petrifies into a statue that is blown up with Ember Charges to harvest Petrified Tissue. The biome’s boss, Kall Fimbulbringer, is listed in the Bosses table above: resistant to pierce, fire, frost and lightning, immune to spirit, so blunt and slash are your reliable damage.

What this means for your weapon

  • Heading into the Swamp? Iron Mace (blunt) for Blobs, Oozers and Bonemass — one weapon solves most of the biome.
  • About to enter a cave full of skeletons? Bronze Mace or Iron Mace — blunt is the universal skeleton answer.
  • Fighting Moder? Fire arrows or a fire weapon — leave frost arrows at camp.
  • Going into the Ashlands? Frost or Lightning weapons make Charred enemies easy; fire does nothing.
  • The mechanics behind each damage type and the wet interaction: damage types guide
  • Every boss’s detailed guide with the resistance row built into the BossFacts component: boss order hub
  • How to set up your weapon loadout per progression stage: weapon tier list
  • Build the right weapon chain with the right station level: workstations

Frequently asked questions

Why do damage-type mismatches feel so punishing?
Because resistances halve (or quarter) your damage and immunities reduce it to zero. A frost weapon against Moder lands nothing — she is immune to frost. A weapon with the right damage type, or a strong blunt/slash weapon against a boss with no real weakness, ends fights in half the time with no extra stamina cost.
Is the Damage multiplier always 2x for weak targets?
No, the exact multiplier is hidden from this page because we have not finished cross-checking against 1.0. This page lists *directional* weaknesses and immunities (weak to X, resistant to Y, immune to Z) rather than numbers — see our [verification workflow](/about/).
Can a single enemy have both a weakness and an immunity?
Yes, very commonly. Bonemass is weak to blunt and frost, resistant to fire/pierce/slash, and immune to poison and stagger. Yagluth has no real weakness but is very resistant to pierce, resistant to fire, and immune to poison. Matching the right damage type matters even when there is one weakness and one immunity.
