Valheim 1.0 Week 1 — Hotfixes, Crossplay Status and What Changed
Everything that changed in the first week after Valheim 1.0 launched: the 1.0.10 and 1.0.12 hotfixes, the temporary Switch 2 crossplay issue, and what it means for servers and players.
By Valheim Field Guide Editorial Team
1.0 landed on September 9. Two hotfixes followed on September 11.
Valheim exited early access with the 1.0 release on 9 September 2026. The build shipped with Deep North, a full achievement system, crossplay across PC / Xbox / PS5 / Switch 2, and a Unity engine upgrade. Forty-eight hours later, Hotfix 1.0.10 (all platforms) and 1.0.12 (Steam only) went live.
This page tracks what those patches changed and what still matters for players running servers or planning crossplay sessions in week one.
The two hotfixes — what they changed
Patch 1.0.10 (all platforms, September 11)
Applies to every client: Steam, Microsoft Store, PS5, Xbox, and Switch 2. (Iron Gate noted the Xbox client is listed as 1.0.11, but it is identical to 1.0.10.) Highlights:
- Deep North heavy armour is now repairable — the endgame tier was not repairable in the launch build.
- Greydwarf Shamans in Deep North deal and heal the correct amounts — the new enemy was numerically off at launch.
- Snow no longer breaks from punching — a minor physics tweak.
- Landing on snow without directly walking now removes the snow as intended.
- Several creature sound effects and the Deep North snow audio pass were updated.
Patch 1.0.12 (Steam only, September 11)
Steam-specific fixes that are crossplay compatible and will roll out to other platforms in the next patch:
- Forge of Potential no longer unlocks unintended recipes.
- Armour stands and item stands preserve item durability and upgrade levels when you remove items — but only if you have not been near them since 1.0 released. If you have interacted with that stand, Iron Gate recommends making a backup before moving high-tier gear.
- Fixed a crash when trying to access an unloaded zone.
- Banlist / whitelist now work with both legacy IDs (
Steam_123456789) and the newer V-ID format (V_123456789). - Achievements can be opted back in after devcommands / mod usage with a new command
yes i used devcommands but i want my achievements anyway(remove the spaces). - Cart fits through the Timberwood Drawbridge more reliably.
- Jotun Puffs and Magecaps no longer look pickable once they have been picked.
The Switch 2 crossplay situation — the September 11 upload issue
Iron Gate’s official post noted an “unforeseen issue” that meant the patch could not be uploaded to Switch 2, which meant crossplay between Switch 2 and the other platforms was not supported for a window after launch. Iron Gate said it was “hoping to solve this as soon as possible,” but the 1.0.10/1.0.12 posts do not confirm a fixed date or that crossplay has already been restored, so treat Switch 2 crossplay as still in flux during week one.
If you run a dedicated server, it will automatically pick up the current client build on restart via SteamCMD. Confirm your server’s patch level before starting a crossplay session, and have console players check their platform’s build before joining.
What players should do
- Patch your client. The 1.0.10 fixes are worth having regardless of platform.
- Server admins: restart after the hotfix to fetch the updated binaries. Linux dedicated servers auto-pull from SteamCMD on restart.
- Achievement hunters who used devcommands before 1.0: use the opt-in command on Steam to re-enable achievements permanently.
- Switch 2 players: confirm crossplay availability with your friends before starting a co-op session — this is actively unstable in week one.
We are not tracking per-platform build or network-version numbers here — those drift during the first week of a launch and are easy to get stale. If you need the current build for a given platform or server, check the official Steam announcements and your server’s own version output before rolling out an update to your player base.
